| Ghorepani Poon Hill | 8 days | City access plus consecutive walking days |
Annapurna Base Camp: a destination reached through a sustained walking route

ABC is a base-camp objective within a wider Kathmandu or Pokhara programme. Count the days spent walking separately from city nights and transfers. A shorter advertisement may start closer to the trail or remove city services; it is not automatically evidence that every traveller can safely complete the same route faster.
The route needs a guide-led assessment of daily progress and conditions. The high objective should not be treated like a guaranteed temple visit reached by vehicle. Choose this trek because you want the multi-day walking experience as well as the destination. If the only priority is a mountain photograph, a lower-commitment holiday may suit you better.
Mardi Himal: check the advertised high point and combination
Mardi itineraries differ in their start, end and highest planned point. Our twelve-day proposal combines Poon Hill with the Mardi ridge; it should not be compared directly with a short Mardi-only route. Ask whether the operator means a viewpoint, High Camp or a farther objective when using the name Mardi Himal. The exact wording changes the walking and exposure expected.
Weather and group condition can change the high point. A price comparison should include the actual overnight progression and guide plan. Do not add a second trek simply because the package already visits Pokhara; linking trails creates another route with its own demands.
Poon Hill: shorter does not mean no effort
A Ghorepani–Poon Hill programme can be a shorter introduction to consecutive walking days, but steps, early starts and weather remain part of the experience. Check how many walking days the advertised eight-day package contains and where the city transfers sit. Someone comfortable on a short urban walk should not automatically assume several trail days will feel the same.
Sunrise views depend on weather. The forest, village stops and walking journey should also appeal to you. If a family member prefers not to trek, consider a separate Pokhara stay with a clear reunion plan rather than placing everyone on the same trail against their wishes.
Compare the same commercial scope

Published examples checked on 14 October 2026 show why headline prices need context: Nepal Hiking Team lists ABC at USD1,090 for a 2–4-person group, a twelve-day Mardi/Poon Hill combination at USD950 and an eight-day Ghorepani route at USD740. These are that operator’s prices, not a confirmed Trishna offer. Confirm the live scope before using them as a budget reference.
Himalayan Glacier’s eleven-day ABC example is materially more expensive and includes Kathmandu–Pokhara return domestic flights in its described service. The difference is not explained by the trek name alone. Compare transfers, accommodation, meals, guiding, porter support, permits and supplements before judging value.
Indian and international trekkers: documents and permits are separate questions
Indian nationals should carry the accepted original travel document for their journey; Nepal visa exemption does not remove trekking permit requirements. Other nationalities must check Nepal visa eligibility and the conditions applying to their passport. A resident of India travelling on a foreign passport should not use the Indian-citizen checklist.
The Nepal Tourism Board lists the relevant Annapurna routes under its licensed-guide and agency-issued TIMS provision. Its published TIMS categories are NPR1,000 for SAARC and NPR2,000 for other applicants. The NTNC permit portal lists Annapurna conservation entry at NPR1,000 for SAARC and NPR3,000 for other foreign nationals. Confirm eligibility, current implementation and what is included with the operating trekking agency before payment.
How to assess a trekking quotation
Count the trail days separately from Kathmandu and Pokhara nights. Compare road transfers with domestic flights, city meals with trail meals, guide and porter ratios, baggage allowance, permit handling and room basis. A low price can describe a shorter service window rather than a better value version of the same trek.
USD website budgets are provisional. Your quote should state whether settlement is in USD, INR or another currency and how any conversion is handled. Single supplements, hot showers, charging, drinking water arrangements, tips and extra nights need clear treatment. Do not assume a trail lodge will provide the privacy, heating or bathroom facilities of a city hotel.
Pace, weather and turning around

A trek is not a sightseeing vehicle itinerary with optional walking. Discuss recent walking experience, consecutive-day endurance and the planned ascent with the qualified operating team. Seek appropriate medical advice for personal health or altitude concerns. No itinerary can promise that every traveller will reach the advertised objective.
The guide may need to shorten a day, change an overnight stop or turn the group around. Agree how such decisions affect unused services and additional nights. Do not book the international flight immediately after a weather-sensitive mountain return. Confirm insurance covers the actual activity, altitude and any rescue arrangements you may require; do not assume a general holiday policy does so.
Accommodation and respectful trail conduct
Keep expectations realistic about lodge rooms, bathrooms, menus and electricity. Plan a manageable bag and confirm the porter arrangement instead of arriving with several large suitcases. Request dietary needs in advance, but recognise the limitations of supplies along the trail.
Stay with the agreed route, respect local guidance and avoid unsafe positions for photographs. Carry waste to the appropriate disposal point and ask before photographing local people or entering private spaces. A guide’s role includes route and group management; hiring one is not a promise that weather, trail or health risks disappear.
